In-town Durango

Welcome to In-town Durango

Old western charm meets modern living

Situated between the Animas River Valley and the San Juan Mountains, Durango abounds in natural beauty. The essence of an Old West mountain town, the roots of Durango can be traced back to 1880. The town was founded by the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad Company to serve the San Juan mining district. Two years later, the tracks to Silverton were completed, bringing an influx of new residents to the area. The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, which still exists to this day, serves as an important component of the town’s rich history.

Since its humble beginnings, Durango has become a highly sought-after place to live, work, and play. Durango’s close proximity to nature and the mountains has made it an ideal home base for outdoor adventures.
